Identify the route and stage of the process
A first application, extension, family route and work following a refusal can need different experience. Explain your objective, your current location, whether an application has already been submitted and the nearest deadline. A brief outline is enough for an initial enquiry; document numbers and a detailed personal history do not belong in a public request.
Compare the specific services and communication languages in the profiles. Ask who reviews the evidence, completes the forms and answers queries after submission. Translation, administrative assistance and individual immigration advice have different scopes and should be distinguished in the proposal.
Check the authority to advise on the matter
GOV.UK’s adviser search explains how to find an immigration adviser and check registration. For an IAA-regulated provider, match the individual, organisation and permitted level of work. Language skills or personal experience of an application are not sufficient evidence of professional authority.
Some legal practitioners are overseen by another professional body. If someone claims to be a solicitor in England and Wales, check the SRA register. Ask which professional authority covers the work you are requesting. Directory labels are not a replacement for checking the relevant record.
Separate service fees from application charges
Request a breakdown for the meeting, preparation, submission, translations and later correspondence. Establish whether government payments are included, who makes them and what further evidence requests might cost. A complete package should not be compared directly with the price of one consultation.
Agree how the submission is reviewed
Arrange to check prepared information, receive document copies and obtain submission confirmation. Discuss response times and what happens if your circumstances change. The decision belongs to the relevant authority, so a guaranteed visa is not a sound selection criterion. Eligibility for a particular route needs individual advice based on your circumstances.
